Hi All

Can anyone post the date, time and place of the priory league AGM please? I've lost the letter I was sent! Also if anyone has the week the summer league kicks off to hand that would be great too.

Cheers

Will be able to when I get home tonight - No Rodmersham team this Summer I believe!
The Warren, Thursday 5th at 8pm. Post code for your satnav BR2 7AL

I vote for PAR (I don't think we discussed enough last time!)

Outer Kent AGM on same day, good timing! Can someone ask the committee to re-introduce the rule below left out last season without being voted on (a chink that PL so grately abused to their advantage this year!!!)

Rule 1:- Teams shall consist of five members from each club. No member may play for more than one club in any one season, or for another team on the same day. No player may play for another team in the same division.

Perhaps you could justify that comment HS. Who exactly contravened that rule for PL?

I think in some respects the Outer Kent League is slowly losing ground with the rest of the county leagues. I respectfully mean:

1. The rule you mentioned above about no players able to play for another team in same division doesn't exist in the Kent Priory, Middlesex, Essex, Surrey Cup, Sussex or Hampshire leagues. It didn't apply in OK league until recently and from what I gather I don't remember a vote being taken place to add this rule in? Aside from the priory Cup, I don't remember seeing a PL cup side turn out for PL1 against Dulwich or Bexley at all last season. The rule for playing up for a higher team has existed for decades and still does and has always been irrespective of what divisions the teams are in and apart from the OK league (and perhaps other leagues further away!). The only downside to this is had I known the season before last that playing up for the 1sts against Rodmersham 1 on the opening day was going to lead to a shock win over them and ultimately lead to them just losing out to Waterfront for the title, then I would have either taken a dive or not turned up ;-)

2. All leagues mentioned above use PAR 11 for top division, Outer Kent doesn't.. At very least, the vast majority of people who hate PAR (in OK) aren't in Division 1 so why not roll it out for just Div 1!? The likes of Josh Masters and James Evans are getting better and better and all their national Junior tournaments are PAR 11 and both play sussex league top division, PAR 11 and Priory league, PAR 11. If they go on to do greater things, BSPA, PSA etc.. then that's all PAR 11. How is making them play English to 9 week in week out going to help them? Don't get me wrong, I bizarrely enough prefer English to 9 but it doesn't help at all when playing tournaments that are PAR. Can anyone tell me what tournament plays English to 9? None. Summer league, 3 seasons ago I played Tom Woods at Fitness first on a very hot court, English to 9, 1 hour 10 mins, 3-1 to me and in the first game there were 12 rallies before either of us scored a point! I think at very least top div should be PAR 11! I think the only exception here is the Maidstone team who are doing remarkably well with all but Josh over the age of 40 (oh and James Cray) so I know you guys aren't fans of PAR 11 and you guys have been consistantly performing in the top league for several seasons so I realise this isn't a favourable proposal to you but James and Josh would benefit greatly from it in the long term.

3. The rule that OK has got spot on is tying players to a team when registering so your players (presumably your best 5) are registered for your first team and that's it. They can only ever play for your first team! Not this strange rule of registering your players in ranked order and provided your best player hasn't played more than twice for the top team, he can turn out at no.1 for the 4th team or something as equally ridiculous! This rule paves the way for the likes of Max Lee to turn out for Dulwich 3 despite the fact he would probably beat every one in Division 1 let alone Div 3! and Simon Culver to turn out for PL2 against Syd Spittle's Fitness First in the summer 2 seasons ago which was reiterated to Syd in the match report to the tune of "Unfortunately for them they did not realise the resources of Park Langley" In OK Rules, The above two would have been tied to their 2nd and 1st teams respectively, irrespective of the number of appearances they'd made!

That is all!

me too!

Hi Clive,

The rule mentioned above somehow dissapeared from last years (2009/2010) Priory rules. In fact the current rules have changed so much from previous without all being discussed and agreed at the last AGM which also included the old cup rule No1 which states 'The Priory League Rules will apply to this competition'. This allowed PL to only put 1 team forward for the Cornwallis (main), the only club to do so, and amalgamate their players (PL1 and PL2) just for the Cornwallis cup. I am sure this is not just a coincidence Clive!!! The above was originally brought up in the forum by John Creek on August 20th under rule clarification but no-one seemed to want to take up the mantle and reply or justify this.

Hi Joe,

The rule was changed at last years AGM (don't believe you were there!), also you state in item 1 that the above rule does not exist elsewhere in the county.... the point is it did exist in Priory season 2009/10 but was left out in season 2010/11

If you feel there are rule changes that will improve the running of the OK league then feel free to come down to Maidstone tonight for the AGM and discuss, remember the committee are only there to implement the rules that have been voted in by its members

Hi HS,

I can't find any mention of this rule change in the AGM minutes which is why I was bit puzzled!. Be it in the Priory or not, it isn't a rule in any of the other neighbouring counties along with no par 11 in top division! In any case these are topics that affect the winter league more so will bring these up come winter AGM.

I was due to come down tonight to do fixtures and AGM but unfortunately have to work late so can't make it but will hopefully get some Canterbury representation down there tonight!

Hope all goes well and see you soon!

Joe

Thanks for the info Clive. Looks like its going to be quite a heated debate again!

I can't make it but John Garwood will be representing TW. I've asked him to vote for us on the whole PAR/HiHo debate for the top division. FWIW worth we favour a return to HiHo for Winter but would prefer to play PAR in the summer.

Good luck all.

(ps any chance of cutting the teams down to 4 players and scrapping food?)

I think the rules should just be (in all divisions) a player can't play down to a lower team or division, nor for more than one team in the same division.  Simple.

Also the Cornwallis thing where PL merged two teams, it depends if this is a 'club' event or a team from the division event. Obviously if it's a club one then there is no issue as all the players were (well sort of) from the club.  Just clarify this and then use the other rule I have just made and everyone is happy.  I think...

Oh and Joe,  that court at Fitness First was very very hot and the heaters were also on for some reason, and I did beat you on the return I think with an even more stupidly long rallied game.
