Hythe 2 vs Folkestone 3

Now I wasn't there but I did hear a report from a reliable source. If I've missed some key info apologies.

Folkestone player drinking double vodka's on the tab, after 2nd drink home skipper points out politely its not really ok to keep on the shorts and if he wants another drink on the tab it would have to be a beer or something along those lines. Player then puts his own money behind the bar and orders another short. (Nothing wrong with that at all and good on you)

Match finishes and Folkestone leave, something along the lines of " if you're not going to be hospitable we're not staying" And they all clear off at 2145 ish.

I didn't play in this match but from my point of view (and I very much enjoy a drink after a match) if you want to drink double vodka's 1 is ok, 2 at a push but its a bit cheeky to say the least, as for everyone clearing off and not staying for food?! Bit of an overreaction me thinks???

it's just a shame people feel the need to behave like this
Definitely not a nice position to be put in by your oppositon.
I can only offer a personal opinion but I think downing double vodkas and expecting others to supply them after a squash match is stretching things a bit too far. Not exactly a thirst quenching drink but maybe the person has a medical problem that won't allow them to have long drinks?
Others have mentioned the bar and food problem in the past, it would be good if the teams in the leagues could come up with a sensible limit. And the food thing does drive you crazy especially as someone has to pay for its provision - maybe if all the players (home and away) had to pay say £2.50 extra on the night to cover their team meal whether they ate or not.
Sadly what is hospitality for one is seen as a free for all by some others. Some even start before a match with Sports drinks - these all add up and really people should supply their own if they want anything more than a sip of water between games.

After 35 years of team matches I'd probably knock it all on the head. Go to your match, have a drink or two bought, buy your opponent one or two back and forget the team meals. They're more hassel than they're worth especially if you have to do the buying, preparation, cooking and washing up - and no one stays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree Phil, I can't remember the last match I played in where all 10 players sat down to eat, as you say, no one stays!, I can't see the whole bar tab and food thing happening much longer. I'd be happy to go with what your saying and just play your game, buy your oppo a drink, then watch the rest of the match once finished, time to go. Matches seem to start late most of the time and from experience getting home at 0030 or later with work the next day isn't great!

would have thought it may be the best solution to stop doing cooked food. I don't see why drinks and sandwiches wouldn't work (although bottles of vodka may still not fit into the budget!) It would be a shame to lose the social aspect of team squash altogether by encouraging people to leave straight away, but probably more people would play if they could get back earlier. I wonder if start times couldn't be brought forward slightly to 7pm as well? - not everyone would be able to get there for then, but if even one match got played before 8 that would make a lot of time.
I fear that if we scrap after match meals then we will lose the services of Malcolm Parker as he thrives on our Thursday night "Woohoo Pizza Deal"!!!!

Earlier start time, the better!!
does that come with free beer??

Had the Rod 2 boys over this week - a real pleasure as usual. Good matches, good banter, 10 players stayed - we couldn't get rid of some.
One day all matches will be like this
:>)
'Good for you Mr Crane'
There's me thinking the discussion was over.
there only one thing better than free beer, and that's more free beer!!
A couple of beers is a respectful amount to drink on the oppositions tab.
Decent food keeps things civilized, everyone waits for the matches to finish, the match can be discussed and games that were played in bad humor can be diffused and hopefully laughed about.
