HAS THERE EVER BEEN A MORE SUCCESSFUL KENT TEAM? - MEN'S OVER 50'S - THREE IN A ROW

Excellent stuff from the lads. This year defeating Lancashire in the finals to bring the trophy home.

Man of the match apparently SUPERMAC who defeated former Open and Closed National Champion, Ian Bradburn 3/2.

More to follow from Captain Tubby Tel.

excellent result for the Kent team, why haven't more of you entered the over 50 national championships? Only Trevor Grant has entered.

If you'd been at Bexley last night you'd have seen why I haven't entered it!

On another note - come on Tubby. Sing our praises ...

OVER 50’s INTER COUNTY FINALS
SATURDAY
MEN O50 – SEMI FINAL A – LANCASHIRE V WARWICKSHIRE
A confident Lancashire side, led by Ian Bradburn and strengthened by newcomer to this age category Peter Upton brushed past Warwickshire by 5 matches to 0., to set themselves up for the final on Sunday.
MEN O50 – SEMI B - DURHAM & CLEVELAND V KENT
The second semi was a much tighter affair. Durham went 2 down after 5th string Brian Duke was beaten 3-2 in a close match against Keith Palmer and James Larcombe could not contain Mark Hobday losing 3-1. Rob Wytcherley pulled one back for Durham in a long 5 game match with Trevor Grant, then no 1 string Neil Harrison levelled the tie in a thrilling encounter against Gordon McManus, winning 10/8 in the 5th. With the match standing at 2 all, the experienced Clive London took Kent to their 3rd successive final with a calm performance against Colin Sheilds.
MEN O50 – FINAL - LANCASHIRE V KENT
The first two matches left the teams at one each, with Keith Palmer winning for Kent at 5th String and Mike Tudor at 3rd string for Lancashire. Despite a fighting effort, Trevor Grant went down at 4th string to Peter Catlow 3-0. 2-1 then to Lancashire. The first strings went on and captain of Lancashire Ian Bradburn looked to be leading his team to the title, as he went 2 up and 8-4 up against Gordon McManus. However the Man of Kent and possibly fate had other ideas... the ball got firmly stuck in the lights. After the delay of warming up a new ball MacManus brought it back to 6-8. Bradburn then had further championship points before MacManus pulled level at 8 all and then took the game 10-8. The impetus swung to MacManus, who took the next 2 games, and the match for Kent 3-2. Meanwhile on the adjacent court Kent’s Clive London had wrapped up his match and therefore the whole tie against Peter Upton.
3-2 overall to Kent then by the closest of margins, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, not to mention putting team manager Terry Easton through the wringer, to win the Championship for the 3rd successive season.

Sounds like another really good win for Clive as I know that Peter Upton is another former O50 National Champion.
