For the first time the Racketball Kent closed was held at Bromley Cricket Club. From the feed back from all the players and supporters it was a great success. Luckily for Sam Stabler, as it was the first tournament he has organised.

Due to the low entries in the women’s main, women’s over 45 and men’s over 55 there was a round robin tournament in place. Hopefully next year there will be more people entering, as there were a lot of you who didn’t bother, you know who you are.

Women’s O45 had Helen Elliot Doyle, Janet Young, Dolores Bray-Ash and Gloria Saunders playing in a Round robin competition. The winner was Helen Elliot Doyle who won all her matches, with Janet Young as the runner-up.

Women’s main was a poor turn out, but none the less there were some great games between Catherine Ruffle, Lucy Murphy and Patti Mills. Catherine and Lucy played their last match against each other, knowing that who ever wins, is the County champion. The result went in Catherine’s favour, with a good 3/1 win.

Men’s O55 had 5 entries this year, Graham Bonnett, Peter Young, Andy Hunt, Brian Harland and Peter Fraser all playing the round robin system. There were some great games played between them all. Its was down to Graham and Peter on the last day, with the same amount of points to win the over 55’s. Unfortunately for Peter, Graham was the one who picked up the winning trophy, beating him 3/1.

Men’s O45 plate
was between Bromley Cricket Club’s Mark Vickers and Terry Jeal. Mark was too strong for Terry beating him 3/0. Time to get in the gym and work off those minces pies I think Terry.

Men’s main O45
saw a great match between Darren Saunders and Keith Palmer. The first game said it all, with Darren 12-14 behind to come back and win 15/14, but it looked like Darren used all his energy doing so. After the first game Keith stepped it up with some good rallies between them. In the end Darren had no more and lost 3/1.

Men’s main plate was between two blurred eyed lads, Ross Beaumont from BCC and Billy Jones. It was clear to see that the two lads had a great night, the night before. Result was 3/0 to Billy.

Men’s main was once again between Ted Jeal and Sam Stabler also from BCC. Yes, I know it’s unbelievable that Ted made the effort to turn up and play. From the start the two knew it was going to be a long game, with some stunning rallies, shots and banter. By the fifth and final game, Sam and Ted were on there last legs and can you believe the gallery thought that Sam looked the one who had more in the tank, but as usual Ted held on to win 3/2…just.

Sam is now in hiding and cant show his face after knowing that he lost to a 19 year old, who wears his girlfriends make-up and ugg boots.

Over all it was a great weekend, with some great matches played and not forgetting the superb support from BCC and other clubs within Kent…
