Jeal completes county championship double
Bromley’s Ted Jeal completed a county championship double by taking the Kent County Closed Squash championship title to add to his earlier Racketball championship success, taking the county Racketball championship in January. With county number 1, Ben Ford absent, Jeal took full advantage with an display of excellent squash throughout the tournament.
His opponent in the final was Jolyon Head of Tunbridge Wells. Jeal powered to a 3-1 (11-0, 11-7, 14-16, 11-5) win over the Tunbridge Wells man who displayed astonishing resolve in the final despite both players having vastly contrasting semi finals matches with Head doing well to take the 3rd game after a lengthy tie break before Jeal regrouped to win the 4th 11-5 and the match 3-1.
Earlier on, Jeal had powered to a straight sets 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-8) win over Tom May of Kings School, Canterbury in just under 30 minutes with him just able to keep a step ahead of the Canterbury man in the 2nd and 3rd games whilst Head was involved in a titanic semi final battle with Joe Magor from Canterbury registering a 3-2 (6-11, 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9) victory after 70 minutes.
Canterbury’s Kieran Wardman won the Plate competition, beating Anthony Garrett from Biggin Hill 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-3) in the final.
The event was hosted at Mote Squash Club in Maidstone and was well attended by home club and visiting supporters. The Kent committee would like to thank Sharon Evans, Joe Wheatley and Kim Roberts from Mote Squash Club for their help in making the tournament a success.
