Kent men’s team

By | Forum | No Comments

Mens county team kept their place in the premier division this weekend.
We knew our first match against surrey was going to be a tall order so most of the team saved their energy for then second match against Nottinghamshire , which would decide if we were to stay up.
Sam Henley played out of his skin and nearly pulled of a great win but after holding 2 match balls lost 14-12 in the 5th! Josh levelled it up with a tough 3-1 win. I lost in 5 at 1 and James levelled again with a solid 3-1 win.
So our fate was to be decided by Chris Tomlinson on his return to the county side after a few years. It was never in doubt as he sealed a 3-0 win and with it our survival.
After a few drinks Saturday night, we lost 3-2 to Oxfordshire .

Kent lost to Surrey 5-0
Ben ford lost to joe lee 3-0
Chris Tomlinson lost to Charles Sharpes 3-1

This weekend saw some top class squash at bexley tennis, squash and racketball club in the psa English closed.
After some great matches the final 2 players left were no.1 seed and world no.87 Ben Coleman and Joel hinds. Joel coming back from injury always looked on top and even after being 8-2 down in the third still came out on top 3-0. Big thanks to Peter Lewis, rob Lewis and joe magor who refereed.
Also massive thanks to Shepard name brewery and fury sportswear for sponsoring the event.

RIP Ken Cotton – Your Tributes

By | Forum | 7 Comments

Ken did so much for Kent squash and especially Kent juniors over the years and gave up so much of his time, trying to improve the standard of Kent juniors as individuals and as a county.
The evening at park Langley a few weeks ago at 2 days notice in his honour, where well over 100 people turned up is testament to what people thought of him.
Condolences to kens family.

I thought I’d share some of the pictures that were taken on the special evening we all got to share with Ken back in July.

Please keep your tributes to Ken coming in.
This page has been created on this website in his honour.

This is the floral bouquet from the Kent SRA at Ken’s funeral.

End July: The wonderful moment when Ken Cotton received his well deserved award from Ben Ford on behalf of everyone that knew and respected his relentless commitment to Kent Squash.

If you listen carefully you’ll hear Ken saying “I’m lost for words for once” and “I’m not going to smile [for the photo]”. Much to the amusement of the hundreds of friends who came along to the very special evening with Ken.

God bless you Ken..

james wilstrop at bexley

After World no.1 , James Wilstrop had been at mote on saturday and tunbridge wells sunday afternoon, the last stop of his tour of kent was bexley sunday night.

A sold out crowd crammed in to to 1st watch James and His father/coach, Malcolm give a group of bexley junior members some coaching followed by the main event of the evening where he would take on 2 of the best bexley could offer!

1st up to play 2 games against James was someone who will be hoping to be where James is a few years time was one of the top juniors in the world and bexley2 no.1 , Richie Fallows. James put Richie through the mill but Richie held his own and showed his potential! Next up was yours truly and club head pro. James was 4-0 up in no time and i was dreading the worst! managed to get some sort of respectability back and lost 11-6. 2nd game started the same with James sending me the wrong way anytime i hit the ball to the front. His foot came off the gas i managed to get to 10-9 up! 30 seconds later James had won 12-10! for the 5th and final game it was 2 against 1.

We thought this maight be our only chance but even with 2 of us James still managed to win 11-8. As punishment for losing myself and Richie had to do 20 sprints much to the crowds pleasure!

James then kindly did a question and answer sesion before signing copies of his book for evenryone that attended.

great night, thanks to everyone that turned up, to James, Malcolm, Mick and Claudia and Alan for getting the ball rolling!
