After more than 10 years as Chairman and latterly as President of Kent SRA, Alan Thatcher has announced that he will be stepping down at the AGM in June this year. I would like to thank Alan for the enormous contribution he has made to the county association over many years, and for his enthusiastic championing of the sport from grassroots through to elite performance. We wish him well and good luck with the new ventures that he will be pursuing. He will not be departing the scene entirely, and we look forward to his continued involvement in the promotion of the Kent Open and junior development in mid-Kent.

With over 30 years of experience promoting our sport, Alan will be a hard act to follow. The Kent SRA Executive Committee has been giving consideration to possible candidates to replace Alan as President, and I am delighted to announce that it is our intention to propose Mandy Akin to the AGM for your endorsement as the next President of the association. Mandy would bring to the post of President a wealth of experience of the game at the highest level, having been a national and British Open champion on a number of occasions. Mandy is also a great female role model in the world of squash and we believe she has the ideal qualities to make a major contribution to increasing female participation in the sport.

Well done Alan, you gave KSRA a boot in the back-side, when it was just ‘steaming’ along its merry way, its now fully back on the new HSL line. You stood up and took the muck and bullets that were thrown, and now KSRA is in its strongest position ever, well done and happy retirement – sort off – as we never stop – do we ? Best regards – Len
